Football Fever

The Indian national football team has beaten Macau 4-1 to top the group and enter the Asian cup for the fourth time!

On the other hand, each and every attacking or defensive move by the Indian under 17 football team at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup makes me wonder, there is much more this ‘sleeping giant’ of a football nation can do!

I look forward to tomorrow’s last group match against Ghana (both my favourites). It really does not matter whether they (India) win or lose, it is all about looking forward, about hope.

All this says only one thing, the subcontinental teams can play football at the world stage, if only the grassroots teams – all the way to the senior teams are provided the right training and coaching facilities. Not only in the metropolitan cities, but in far off places like Malappuram to Mizoram and other rural areas (and also maybe, fed a little beef, mutton or pork). Football, unlike cricket, isn’t a Brahmin’s game, they say.

Now tell me, isn’t it a great time to play football and be a football fan in the country?!

Oh wait, a word about Iran U17’s 4-0 thumping of U17’s Germany! HAHAHA. And also the senior Trinidad and Tobago team ousting the USA out of Russia 2018! Iceland and Egypt are also through to the World Cup finals!
